"I can't blame you for never asking."
Jan. 14th, 2024 12:14 amit's nearly midnight (11:54 PM as I start this specifically) as i start typing this entry! it will probably be midnight and thus january 14th when i'm done. listening to the album linda lovelace for president by marc with a c, one of my biggest musical inspirations and a pretty cool guy to talk to when i get over my own head. in spite of being pretty melancholy, it's still kind of a comfort album for me - my favorite songs are san diego doorways and satellite, the latter of which provides the quote i'm using in the subject of this!
so, in reverse chronological order, i played some minecraft for the first time in a while! specifically beta 1.1_01, both because i have a nostalgic connection to the old versions and also because the new versions run like complete ass on my ancient tower of a PC. i posted about it in my friend cecily's discord, she's the person who enlightened me as to dreamwidth existing (although sorta indirectly) and i like reading the posts she makes on here for reasons i can't really explain. i just like reading about what my friends do i guess?? words are weird. if you're reading this hi!!
anyways! i also hosted rosefm, my radio show of sorts i do on discord, this evening. i feel like the setlists have gotten more and more derivative as time goes on since i only really listen to like the same 25 artists, but i played some stuff that was new to me today - a song from the v/a comp Sweet Sweet Casio that i got recommended a weekish ago which i still gotta listen to in full - and also a bunch of songs i like from most of the geeky/indie pop/rock/folk artists i listen to. it was fun, although the aftershow got a bit overwhelming so me and my gf called after about an hourish (oh hey it's midnight now!) and we talked about band stuff. and that was nice!
i also got a mandolin today!!! my fingers are kinda big so fretting is a little tough, and it also hurts to play a bit? maybe i ought to properly set it up some day. it's still fun though, i learned how to play ocean man by ween and i hid the first half of the riff from that song in a cover of the TMBG b-side The Power of They Might Be Giants' Dial-a-Song today. well, it's not really hid. i just kinda played the riff.
music is fun like that.
anyways, i also did a few job applications. i only got a response from one place last time i did this and i fumbled the interview haaard so i feel shitty about that, but jay gave me some advice and i will take it to heart!
and that's basically how my day was. spinning go! child's the masquerade now as i get ready to go to bed, that was one of the first albums i ever listened to (when i was 11) and i think it shaped my poppy tendencies a lot more than 14-15 y/o me would care to admit. but hey, shit's good yo, even though some of the words could do with improvement (esp. in the song Worry for Naught, which although a good song pales in comparison to the later version Penny did). it's just a charming little twee-shaped indie pop album!! yeah!!! pop!!!!!
i need to figure out how to close these entries better eventually. regardless, i hope you're doing well, whoever, whenever, or whatever you are reading this, and if you're not i hope things get better.
